Wolf's Stare

Meg’s Dream / Zen In The Art of Snowmobiling

One night in January, I dreamt of my mother’s face. Behind her appeared a silver wolf. The dream was so real and peaceful, and I felt so grateful to experience it. I was floating all day, and nothing could change how great my day was going to be.
That month I had my friends the Reiki sisters down from Springfield to attune a few people that I am very close to. I told them my wonderful dream, how I felt, and so on. They told me that the dream meant that my mother was still with me, and by her shape-shifting into a wolf meant that she would always loyally protect me. That day in my store with all the energy and enthusiasm was just wonderful. We did Reiki energy work and had a magical day. We did that on Monday because my store is closed then, and we needed the quiet and serenity to do the teaching. When I got home that night it was like I was floating on a cloud.
Well, my husband had mentioned wanting to go to Vermont snowmobiling on Sunday and I said, “We have to go to a Christening for Brooke and Keagan on Sunday.” Brooke and Keagan are my twin brother’s children, and we are Keagan’s godparents. My husband said, “Why don’t I take Monday off from work, and we can shoot up early that morning to Vermont just for the day to enjoy some snowmobiling.” And of course I was psyched and said yes!
Getting back to Sunday, I really was thinking of my mom, Dorothy, for she wasn’t present at the babies’ Christening, but I did know in spirit that she would be present. I wore her ring and her coat and prayed for her presence. The entire time I could feel her with me, and I was fine with that.
Well, on Monday morning I got up early, made a pot of coffee for the road, and headed up with my husband to Vermont for sledding. We rolled into Wilmington, Vermont, and Ed asked me if I’d like to go out to breakfast before we start our venture into the forest. Well we stopped for breakfast, and the diner was called “Dot’s Place”. When I walked in, everyone was wearing a sweatshirt that also said “Dot’s Place”. I felt awesome, for I knew my mother was sending me a confirmation… “Meg, you did a wonderful job yesterday and I’m here.”
That wasn’t the end though. We usually don’t sit at a table when we go out to breakfast; we usually sit at the counter. This time, however, we sat at one of the tables. As I was looking at a photo on the wall next to us, I noticed it said “R.G. Childs”. I was really surprised because that’s my grandparents’ name. We read the description under the picture and it said, “R.G. Childs was a hardware store before it was Dot’s Place”. I almost fell over! I turned to Ed and said, “My mother and grandparents are here with us.” Talk about feeling fantastic! Before I went out snowmobiling I just felt awesome.
Ed and I went across from Wilmington to Route 7 and headed up to Woodford, Vermont, where there is a great snow belt. Sure enough, when we headed into the forest, the snow was an unbelievable 6 feet and the conditions couldn’t have been better.
We traveled 110 miles and the day was magical. Ed had a little trouble with his sled so we decided to head back. We were on our way back to the truck when a snow squall came upon us out of nowhere. I couldn’t see a thing in front of me, and the wind was wicked. We went about seven miles (which felt like forever), and then it just lifted and the sun came out again. The sky was a beautiful Tanzanite blue.
So we were heading into the trees, which is the National Forest up in Vermont. The snow looks like sugar on the trees and it’s just like something make-believe. As I was going through the woods, I said to myself, “I would love to see a moose.” As I went around a bend, looking right at me was a silver wolf. It was just unreal. I stopped, threw my helmet up, and this wolf and I just stared at each other. Then it started to go up into the snowy mountain, and it kept turning around to make eye contact with me. Then it hopped through some more snow and stared at me again. It stared at me one more time, and then it was gone. Wow. I have to tell you I just couldn’t have been more blown away from seeing such a gorgeous animal in its natural environment. Everything about that day just took my breath away. I guess that’s why I love snowmobiling. You never know what you might see or experience, but it is a total Zen state- you and Mother Earth. I am truly blessed to experience such a thing.
With love and gratitude,
Meg
