Nautical Messages from Above

On Sunday, three of my angel cards fell on the floor on the morning before our departure. One said,
“Signs from Above- Watch for your signs from a loved one.”

Cruising by, I see a fast boat approaching. It was a “Scarab”. My brother owned a Scarab and used to race them!

Next, a boat passed by us. It was a “Cape Dory”. One of my dad’s good friends built those boats and owned one as well.

Crazy wild!

Watch for your own signs, they are all around us!

Speaking of all around us, the Coast Guard is there for us too, and the full moon truly brings out the best in everyone!

Ed and I were northbound, chugging along, and Channel 16 was on, so we could hear other boaters’ conversations on the radio:

Call 1

“Coast Guard, we are out in the ocean heading to Charleston, can you tell me the way to Charleston Inlet? I need to know how to get in.”

Omg. It gets better!

Call 2

“In bound car carrier under power… closing in on you really fast… get out of the Charleston Harbor…

Repeat. Get out of the Charleston Channel. Do you copy? Painkiller. Do you copy?

Move over, you’re in the middle of the channel!”

Still radio silence.

Call 3 (entering the Savannah Inlet)

“Repeat, entering the Savannah Inlet… get out of my way, you are going to be run over… do you copy?”

Radio silence. Omg. There is a HUGE barge approaching.

THREE times. Still radio silence.

Then the barge called the Coast Guard-

“Tell this motor boater in the Savannah Channel that I am going to run over him!”

Barges do not have brakes. It was crazy to listen to.

Call 4

“Coast Guard, my motor just fell off my transom, I need help!”

Omg. It fell off his boat and he had no idea where he was exactly! They asked for his position.

Call 5

“Coast Guard, I’m on a sand bar and my boat is filling up with water! Coast Guard, I need help!”

The Coast Guard replied, “What type of boat?” Radio silence. “Where are you?”

“I’m on the sandbar in the New River Inlet. I drove out of here the same way I drove in. Now I’m stuck on the sand bar.” Radio silence.

Another boater had to explain where he was and he was not in distress at all. He just kept calling the Coast Guard!

I guess they truly hear it all, and see it all, especially on a full moon!

They were quite busy over this full moon weekend. Thank God we have the Coast Guard, to save us boaters!

“Sea” you soon,

Meg
