Eagle Takes Flight

October 21, 2007
Well the end of our two year adventure of boating on the vessel “The Margaret”is coming to a closure for the year of 2007.  We have to pull the boat out and winterize it close to home so we can do some serious work on it.  Having the bottom blasted and painted.  Ripping out the toilet and doing over the bathroom and walls and finishing up the teak and holly floors that we never finished before we left for the south two years ago.  Ed made plans to keep it at Petzold’s Boatyard in Portland, CT closer to our home so he can start the project after work each night.

Well we got down to the boat Saturday night, went out to dinner with friends and had a great night.  Stars were brilliant and we new the next morning was going to be gorgeous.
When you live with your eyes wide open and the willingness to be open with your heart and mind you too will see, feel, and observe your gifts sent from far away. “Live In The Now”.

It was the next morning Sunday, October 21, 2007 by the time we untied all of our lines and prepared the vessel for our journey up the CT River and the time was approximately 10:30 and we said our good byes and we were off.  The weather was a gorgeous 71degrees and perfectly clear and sunny for late October.  Sweet, I’ll take this weather all day, but we all know winter is right around the corner.  Well Ed and I got out in the sound and it wasn’t too bad.  The wind was stirring up a little chop you wouldn’t feel that on the river but in the sound a lot of wind and a little cooler but “The Margaret” takes it well because she is so heavy.  As we approached the beginning of the CT River heading north I couldn’t believe the boat’s in the river unbelievable.  It was like being on I95, usually boating is very relaxing, but because the weather was a 10 everyone had the same idea to play in the water.  The fall leaves are just starting to change and that makes our river just so gorgeous with all the colors on the leaves.  The homes along the CT River are just beautiful one after another, lawns so green and pristine, absolutely gorgeous properties.  The CT River was voted the number two most prettiest River in the world because we have no industrial factories along it.  Just beautiful properties and spectacular rock walls and seagrasses just awesome.  The boats that were heading up river for storage were fantastic looking too.  Just everyone was having a great run passing Gillette Castle sitting up on the ledge of  rock and all made of rocks itself.  It reminds you of making sand castles on the beach.  It’s like make believe along our journey, Ed yells to me, “ Meg check it out an Eagle”, I looked into the tree along the river and I couldn’t believe my eyes.  Sitting so proud and so tall and so massive the head of the bald eagle looked like he was wearing a white helmet and I hurried and grabbed my camera even though I just wanted to take this  close look and just be with massive and beautiful eagle because it truly does take your  breath away being so close to such a proud and stately bird of prey.  I snapped a few shots and all of a sudden it just started to soar from the top of the tree towards our boat and I almost fell over with excitement wind span is just massive and how close we were to it was so exciting for us.  I mean take your breath away.  I continued to snap the pictures but like I said I wanted to watch it too. The white on the head and the white on the end of his tail you could see how it stood out with the sky so tanzanite blue it was spectacular.  Then I looked up to Ed and said “I just can’t believe this, this is awesome”, at that same time a black swallow tail butterfly flew by our boat and I said, “ Did you see that” a black swallow tail.  I never saw a swallow tail boating.  You only see a lot of monarchs on the ocean.  I know how blessed we both are and how grateful I am by being in this moment on a Sunday afternoon enjoying time with someone you love and enjoy.  Being in the moment reassures the love and beauty that God places events and moments like this to say to us, just sending you gifts that I know both of you know what they mean , and we do.  Honestly we do.  The trip up the river was safe, beautiful, fun, and I have to say that the past two years where we took this vessel going down the inter coastal and back again was a journey we both will never forget. We can’t wait to do it again.  For those who enjoy boating and the water and just living in the now, it’s an adventure like no other.  I highly recommend it and to wrap it up with the eagle made it even better.
With love, light, and gratitude,
Meg
